The Mind Behind TYOL
Olufisayo Bakare is a multiple award winner within the creative sector. Born in Lagos, the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria, to an Abeokuta family with a rich art and design heritage, her artistic passion stems from a combination of nature and nurture. Her interest in the city of her birth inspired the creation of the fast growing metropolitan brand, The Yellow of Lagos.
A thoroughly trained interior designer, she obtained her undergraduate degree in Interior Design from The Art Institute of Atlanta and her Master’s degree from Savannah College of Art and Design, both in Georgia. Bakare’s design philosophy is pivoted around cultural minimalism as she finds a rare balance between simplicity and African artistry.
Set on distinguishing herself as a thought leader in the design field, she created her first company, Interior Living, positioned as the continental market leader and pacesetter providing world class design solutions with an Afro-cultural essence. Her passion for travel, anthropology, and culture have exposed her to curate exhibitions, document societal experiences, and envision thought-provoking installations within the design sector.
As a result of her natural curiosity and social problem-solving skills, Bakare spearheaded her second business, The Yellow of Lagos. With the Yellow of Lagos, Bakare takes an artistic gaze into the city’s complex and variegated social fabric through the unifying color of its oldest public transportation system, yellow. Both companies challenge her creative output and propel her into putting Nigeria on the map.
